In 1964, Barry Goldwater was running for President of the United States. He made a speech that became quite famous. I wonder if Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has heard it.
The famous line is: “Extremism in the defence of liberty is no vice. And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.”
Here’s a short video clip of Goldwater delivering this line.
Lately, Twitter has been full of ordinary, unsung Canadians giving brief biographies of themselves, then mentioning that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has labelled them “extremists” because of their views on “vaccines”, lockdowns and free speech. They post with the hashtag #TrudeauHasGotToGo or #TrudeauMustGo.
I thought of joining them, but then I realized that I actually am an extremist: I’m an extremist in defence of liberty. And I’m not ashamed of it. Just don’t quote me out of context.
And I also want Trudeau to go—but you really don’t need to be an extremist to want that!
You definitely are an extremist and I appreciate that, I also appreciate the moderates, it is the nonpursers of justice that are the problem. Those who blindly follow one another in the persuit of moderation.
